Who I Am
My Background & Approach
Located in the state of New York, Pierre Desir is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Pierre's passion for helping others find and maintain a sense of inner peace was discovered at the ripe age of nine when she would try to teach her friends and family mindfulness techniques learned that week in yoga. One decade later, Pierre attained her certificate for yoga teacher training with Always at Aum. With over decade of experience in the wellness and mental health field, she has found a holistic approach to help clients get to the root of their dysfunctions. Pierre asserts that true peace begins with the mind. After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a concentration in Sociology at Stony Brook University, New York. Pierre later went on to attend Hofstra University where she obtained her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy. During her studies at Stony Brook, Pierre focused on the intersection of race and gender. As well, Pierre is a certified yoga teacher, Reiki facilitator, and breathwork practitioner. Since launching her career, Pierre has worked with a wide vast array of backgrounds. Pierre's goal for her clients is to uncover from where the symptoms of trauma are manifesting. Together you explore your internal narratives, isolated memories that are contributing to the feeling of panic in your body, and process these experiences in a safe environment. The objective is for the client to naturally gain access to your own means of functional regulation. It is Pierres intention to help you better understand yourself, your choices, your wants and needs, and your processes.
Personal Beliefs and Interests
My personal belief is that everybody can live a fulfilling and peaceful life. I believe that our mental health is the intersection of biology and the environment. To handle the trauma one has internalized, specific coping mechanisms are adopted to help one survive experiences that were unaligned with our wants and needs. By becoming more intimate with our emotional landscape, and learning the language of our emotions, we can begin to take back our power and live a life that feels like our own. It is my personal belief that misogyny is the backbone of all systems of oppression, and if we can actively face internalized narratives that uphold these systems, the tower of cards that make up our dysfunctional beliefs will begin to fall. It is my intention to provide a safe space for my clients to explore their most authentic selves. It is not about becoming a "better" version of yourelf, it is about becoming a clearer version of who you already are.

If we want to live a more peaceful and fulfilling life, first we must confront the self by gaining a better understanding of our thoughts, emotions, internal narratives, and experiences. It is my intention to help you better understand yourself, your chioces, and your processes.
